About us

The climate crisis and more recently energy security has put decarbonisation at the top of the agenda of most governments. Reducing emissions to net-zero will require a dramatic change in industrial production and impact on jobs and employment and impact the way societies and economies are organised across large parts of the world.

Societal actors have asked for a just transition. Just Transition requires the protection of workers and vulnerable groups affected by this restructuring of the economy. In many places, trade unions have already begun to develop proposals and strategies to ensure an inclusive and socially just design of climate-related structural change.

At the University of Leeds, we have established a research programme on Just Transition, led by Professor Vera Trappmann, where a large interdisciplinary team (here) studying Just Transition initiatives around the globe. We work with governments and trade unions in various countries.
